The Federal Government has charged the nation’s workforce to make a decisive shift from activity-based administration to results-based management.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, said this on Tuesday in Abuja during the Sectoral Retreat of Heads of Agencies under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Akume said that the Tinubu administration is driving a ‘whole-of-government’ model that will dismantle bureaucratic silos and build a seamless governance machinery, ensuring every arm of government works cohesively to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that the retreat, themed “Strengthening Coordination for Results: Aligning Mandates with Presidential and Service Priorities for Effective Policy Implementation”, is designed to realign government structures and processes to the President’s development ambitions.
According to him, the theme captures the heart of effective governance: ensuring that the administration’s policies are not only well-designed on paper, but also executed efficiently to deliver tangible improvements in the lives of our citizens.
“Experience shows that even the best-intentioned policies can fail to achieve their objectives due to weak coordination, overlapping efforts, lack of inter-agency collaboration, and insufficient performance monitoring.
“These shortcomings reduce the overall impact of government initiatives and undermine public trust,” Akume said.
He also said that the Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes economic revitalization, social inclusion, infrastructural development, and foundational governance reform.
H said, “Aligning the OSGF’s mandate with these presidential and service-wide priorities goes beyond routine compliance. It represents a call to shared accountability and purposeful action.
“We must each embrace this national development vision and translate it into tangible, measurable outcomes that improve the lives of Nigerians.”
The SGF called for embodiment of the spirit of coordination and collective responsibility that all must internalise.
“We must therefore make a decisive shift from activity-based administration to results-based management. This transformation is built on three pillars: Continuous Performance Tracking, Transparent Monitoring and Evaluation, and Institutional Learning and Adaptation
“Our ultimate aim is to foster a public service culture driven by outcomes, where success is measured not by the volume of activities, but by the real impact on citizens’ welfare.
“In this endeavor, digital innovation must be employed as our indispensable ally. Technology serves as a powerful force tool for enhancing transparency, coordination, and efficiency,” Akume said.
Speaking earlier, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office/Overseeing the General Services Office, OSGF, said the retreat was held at a pivotal time in the national development journey.
He said that the theme, “Strengthening Coordination for Results: Aligning Mandates with Presidential and Service Priorities for Effective Policy Implementation,” aptly reflects the shared responsibility to ensure the efficient and effective execution of government policies and programmes.
“Our aim is straightforward: to develop a clear, practical roadmap for enhanced coordination that will be reflected in improved performance of the OSGF and its agencies, ultimately accelerating the realisation of our national objectives,” Danjuma said.
