Nigerian Woman Sets 3rd Guinness Record With 15-Metre Wig

A Nigerian woman, Helen Williams, has clinched a hat-trick of Guinness World Records after creating a wig taller than a three-storey building.

Williams added the record for the tallest wig to her growing list after unveiling a hairpiece measuring 15.37 metres from the top of her head.

The towering wig dwarfed the building where she posed for photographs and stood higher than the width of the famous Hollywood sign.

Before this feat, Williams had already secured records for the world’s longest handmade wig at 351.28 metres and the widest wig at 3.65 metres.

Speaking on the latest achievement, the professional wig maker said breaking records had become a personal mission.

“I don’t think I’ll ever stop breaking records. To have a record is like climbing a mountain; the climb is hard and full of challenges but the view from the top is incredible,” she said.

Williams described the tallest wig as the most difficult record-breaking attempt of her career.

According to her, an initial test run failed, forcing her back to the drawing board to redesign the structure that would support the massive hairpiece.

“Making the wig stand was going to be very difficult, but I went back and started designing again. When I finally figured it out, I began the official attempt months later and everything went well,” she explained.

She disclosed that the wig was made with 250 bundles of string hair at a cost exceeding N3m.

The entire process, she said, took two weeks and involved several technical challenges.

“The longest wig was the easiest for me as a wig maker, but the tallest wig was the most technical and challenging because of the construction,” Williams noted.

She stressed that experience alone was not enough to achieve the feat.

“You can have 10 or 20 years’ experience, but if the internal structure doesn’t hold, you won’t get the record,” she added.

Williams also holds records for the most hair clips in a wig in 30 seconds and the most hair clips on the head within the same time.

She said the records symbolised courage, resilience and determination.

“Each record represents a battle I fought against doubt, fear and limits. They remind me that if you refuse to give up, anything is possible,” she said.

Asked whether she was done breaking records, Williams was unequivocal.

“There are more records to break, more boundaries to push and more dreams to achieve,” she declared.
