Plateau killing: Christian, Muslim youths condemned attacks, sue for peace, justice

Tinubu nominates Gen. Musa

The Global Association of Christians and Muslims Youth for Peace and Development (GACMYPD) has condemned recent attacks, which claimed lives of many people and destruction of property in Plateau and Kaduna states.

The Pioneer President of the group, Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja described the incident as barbaric, disturbing, inhuman and unacceptable.

The attacks occurred in Angwan Rukuba district in Jos and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area, where several people were reportedly killed and others abducted, including wedding guests.

Eyewitnesses on Sunday said the attackers, who rode on motorcycles, invaded the Plateau community around 7:30 pm, while people were going about their normal businesses, firing bullets indiscriminately and causing panic among residents.

“This senseless and inhuman act of violence has led to the tragic loss of lives and left many others injured, with families and the community subjected to grief and distress. All Nigerians must see these attacks as being against our collective wellbeing as Nigerians and humans,” Ibrahim said.

While commending the Plateau and Kaduna state governments and the security agencies for their proactive measures aimed at mitigating the situation and preventing further escalation, he, however expressed sadness over reported reprisal attacks, especially in Plateau against innocent passersby and travelers.

He urged government at all level and security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, early warning system and deploy all necessary resources to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of this attack and any related acts of violence.

The Organisation commiserated with the families of the victims and called on the government to take drastic measures to ensure justice for the victims.

He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the security strategies to curtail the violence and prevent future occurrence.

“Part of the measures is to ensure justice for the victims of the attacks. The perpetrators of the attacks must be prosecuted and intelligence should be upped to nip future attacks in the bud before they occurred,” Ibrahim said.
