The Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (CGEJ), has called on the former Nigerian President to contest next year’s presidential election and return to power.
The group, in a letter signed by its national president, Dr Tom Ohikere, dated 8th April, 2026, and titled “A Clarion Call on Your Excellency to Salvage Nigeria”, said it has in the past six months, held nationwide consultations with Nigerians so that Jonathan could consider returning to power and rescue the Nigeria from its current state.
According to the letter, Nigerians are lamenting the current state of despair, hopelessness and disunity in the country describing Jonathan as the only unifying figure that can reverse the ugly trend.
The group assured Jonathan of massive votes if he declares his intention to contest the presidency next year.
“I am most humbled and privileged to lead a delegation of our members representing millions of Nigerians from all the thirty six states and FCT to deliver this message to you on their behalf. The message is short, direct and simple.
“Sir, Nigerians have asked us to plead with you to come to the rescue of our nation by declaring interest to contest for the Presidency in 2027. Everywhere that we have visited in the course of our nationwide consultations over a period of six months, the clamour for your return to power to rescue our country has been loud and unmistakable.
“They are lamenting the current state of despair hopelessness and disunity in the country and see you as the only unifying force that can reverse the impending catastrophe looming over the country. Nigerians are asking you to declare now for the 2027 presidential contest
determined.
“They are prepared and determined to come out in their millions to support and vote massively for you. This is the message from across all the thirty six states and the FCT. We thank you most sincerely for your attention,” the letter reads.
