The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a serial election contestant and loser amid ongoing political exchanges.
Wike was reacting to Atiku’s claim that the current administration has not delivered positive results for Nigerians. Speaking during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Abuja, he dismissed the remarks, insisting that development in the FCT is visible and ongoing.
“Atiku is a serial failure. He is a serial contestant and loser and I am sure that in 2031, he will still contest,” he said, adding that Nigerians would not take such criticisms seriously.
He challenged Atiku to compare Abuja during his time as vice president with the current state of the capital, arguing that significant progress had been made.
Wike maintained that governance would not be distracted by political attacks, stressing that project delivery must continue regardless of the election cycle.
“The election will come, but people must work. Contractors are not part of the election,” he said.
He also assured residents that key road projects linking satellite towns would be completed on schedule, noting that the Airport–Kuje road is nearing completion and part of the bridge would be opened soon.
Wike further said the Kuje–Gwagwalada road project would be delivered before the end of May, while reiterating that over 80 per cent of ongoing works would be completed before January.
