Dear ladies, after graduation, the next chapter of your life should be about searching for employment, pursuing a master’s degree, developing new skills, building a career, or exploring opportunities. It should not be about putting your life on hold while waiting for marriage.
For too long, society has conditioned women to believe that marriage is the ultimate achievement of womanhood. From childhood, many girls are raised to see becoming a wife as the greatest milestone they must attain. While marriage is a beautiful institution, it should never become the only measure of a woman’s success or fulfilment.
The problem is not marriage; it is the pressure society places on women to prioritise it above everything else.
Why should a woman who has spent years acquiring knowledge abandon her ambitions simply because she has not found a husband? Why should a graduate postpone her dreams, education, or career because marriage is not forthcoming?
Dear ladies, do not allow societal expectations to put your life on pause. Apply for that job, pursue that postgraduate degree, learn a skill, start that business, and invest in your personal development. Your life should continue to move forward regardless of your marital status.
I am not suggesting that women should reject marriage. Rather, I believe marriage should be a conscious choice, not a desperate pursuit driven by societal pressure. A woman can desire marriage and still pursue her ambitions. The two are not mutually exclusive.
Unfortunately, many women have abandoned educational and professional opportunities because they feel pressured to get married. Some have settled for unhealthy relationships simply because they fear growing older without a husband. This is a reality we must begin to challenge.
A woman’s worth is not determined by her marital status, and her achievements should not be measured by how quickly she becomes someone’s wife.
Dear ladies, do not lose yourself trying to be chosen. Build yourself, pursue your dreams, and become the woman you aspire to be.
When the right partner comes, let him meet a woman who has been growing, learning, and building a meaningful life.
Marriage should be a beautiful addition to a woman’s life, not the only purpose of her existence.
