Convention: APC ratifies zoning formula for national offices

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to the existing zoning arrangement for the positions of the party’s highest in administrative organ of the party ahead of the forthcoming national convention

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said on Monday in a statement that this is to prevent internal friction ahead of its elective convention and to the status quo of the party’s high command aimed at ensuring geographic balance and party stability.

In the statement, the APC confirmed that the power-sharing formula used to distribute offices across the six geo-political zones remained “valid and applicable” for the upcoming gathering.

The statement reads: “As contained in the published All Progressives Congress (APC) 2026 Schedule of Nationwide Congresses, National Convention, and Related Activities, the existing zoning arrangement for National Working Committee positions across states within the geo-political zones remains valid and applicable to the upcoming for National Convention.

“Aspirants purchasing and submitting Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for national offices ahead of the National Convention are advised to be strictly guided by the existing zoning arrangement.”

Under the present zoning arrangement, the office of the National Chairman is zoned to the Northcentral and micro-zoned to Plateau State. The office of the Deputy National Chairman (North) is allotted to the Northeast with Borno State as the benefiting state, while that of the Deputy National Chairman (South) is micro-zoned to Enugu State.

The Southwest housed the office of the National Secretary and is currently being held by Osun State, while the Assistant National Secretary is allotted to the Northcentral with Nasarawa State as the occupant. The office of the National Treasurer is micro-zoned to Ebonyi State, while the National Organising Secretary is produced by Kebbi State, and Anambra State has the slot of the Deputy National Organising Secretary.

For the office of the National Women’s Leader, Edo State occupies the position; the National Youth Leader is allotted to Lagos State, while Ogun State has the office of National Leader of Peoples With Disabilities (PWDs).
