The Lagos state government has sealed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located along Apapa-Oshodi road over allegations of environmental infractions.
Tokunbo Wahab, commissioner of environment and water resources, announced the decision on Sunday in a post published on X.
“Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading,” Wahab said.
This is not the first time the Lagos government has closed down the Ladipo market over alleged environmental infractions.
In September 2023, the Lagos government sealed the market over several environmental offences, including reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises, and non-payment of waste bills.
The state government had insisted that the Ladipo market would remain closed until the mandatory conditions of redress had been met by traders and market stakeholders.
In October 2023, the market was reopened after the safety audit was passed.
