Seyi Shay: Late Sound Sultan was my defender when I got into trouble
Seyi Shay, the Nigerian singer, has opened up about her relationship with the father of her daughter.
Speaking on the WithChude podcast, the 39-year-old songstress said she and her daughter’s father remain close friends who are jointly raising their child.
Seyi described him as “someone very special to me”, adding that they are not married due to a “technical issue” but maintain a healthy co-parenting relationship.
“Her dad is Nigerian, from Nigeria. And we’re really brilliant friends now, and we coparent really well,” she said.
“We’re not married. It’s a technical issue but because he’s not here, I don’t want to speak too much because I’ve not discussed with him about how he might feel.
“He’s someone that is very special to me and this is my daughter’s father. But he’s great, he’s cool, he’s around, he’s in the UK at the moment.
“He’s also in the music industry, on the corporate side of things. And we just work well together, raising our child. We’re great friends.”
Seyi Shay welcomed her first child, a baby girl, in 2022. Earlier that year, she revealed she was engaged but chose not to disclose her partner’s identity.
When asked about her engagement ring, she said: “some guy gave it to me and said, ‘would you marry me?’ It’s really diamonds. Diamonds are forever”.
“I’d already evolved. I was already glowing before I met the guy. He just added to the glow.”
In 2021, the singer spoke about feeling pressured by fans to get married, have children, and post provocative photos.
