The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has ratified the expulsion of Hon. Uzokwe Ifeanyi Peter, Member representing Nnewi, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Anambra State, in the House of Representatives.
This is contained in the communique of the 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.
The meeting which saw the vote of confidence on the leadership of Comrade Emmanuel Bishop Amakiri as National Chairman of the YPP, also witnessed the election of seven national officers to fill vacant positions in the party.
“The NEC unanimously upheld the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) to expel Hon. Uzokwe Ifeanyi Peter, Member representing Nnewi, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Anambra State, in the House of Representatives.
“His expulsion follows multiple petitions and verified video evidence of anti-party activities constituting gross misconduct in violation of the Party’s Constitution, particularly Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o), pages 70 and 71, which clearly outline offences and sanctions.
“The NEC reaffirms its zero-tolerance policy for acts that undermine party unity, discipline and cohesion,” the communique signed by Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins
YPPs National Publicity Secretary said.
Speaking on the state of the nation concerning insecurity, the YPP NEC commends the recent appointment of General Christopher Musa (Retd) as the Minister of Defence.
“His appointment is viewed as a round peg in a round hole and aligns with our consistent advocacy that matters of national security should never be politicized.
“We reiterate that strategic security positions must be entrusted to capable professionals rather than offered as tools of political patronage.
“In this regard, we call on the President to extend this renewed seriousness to all non-performing heads of security agencies, especially the current Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, whose performance has fallen short of expectations,” the party said.
On the election of national officers to fill vacant positions in the party, the communique said that pursuant to the provisions of Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the NEC elected the officers to fill existing vacancies within the National Executive structure of the party:
Those elected are Hajiya Nana Aisha Mahmoud, Deputy National Chairperson; Hon. Chigozie Gerald Udogu, Deputy National Secretary; and Barrister Uche Levis, National Legal Adviser.
Others are Hon. Owoyombo Gbenga Solomon, Acting National Youth Leader; Sir Paul Chukwuma, National Leader; Hon. Sani M. Darma, North West Zonal Chairman; and Hon. Olatunbosun Abolarinwa, National Security Adviser.
The NEC congratulates all newly elected officers and urges them to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the Young Progressives Party.
The YPP NEC while rejecting the nation’s drift toward a one-party state, said, “The NEC strongly condemns any attempt by the President or any group of political actors to steer Nigeria towards a one-party state.
“The strength and beauty of democracy lies in healthy multiparty competition, respect for dissent and the freedom of political association.
“Any action aimed at stifling opposition or undermining pluralism is a direct threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability and will be firmly resisted through every legitimate democratic means.”
The YPP NEC reaffirms its commitment to internal democracy, national development and the defence of Nigeria’s democratic space.
The communique said, “Under the banner of ‘United We Stand’, the Young Progressives Party will continue to champion accountability, justice and progressive leadership for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
