The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the chairmanship election in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
Daniel Nuhu, the candidate of the APC, secured 17,032 votes in the poll.
He defeated Haruna Pai of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 8,575 votes to place second.
The election was conducted across the ten wards that make up Kwali on Saturday.
After collation of results at the council’s final centre, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced Mr Nuhu as the winner on Sunday morning.
Mr Nuhu won in most of the wards, giving his party a clear lead over its main rival in the contest.
With the outcome in Kwali, the APC has now recorded victories in three out of the four area councils where results have so far been released.
The party earlier secured wins in AMAC and Bwari, while the PDP claimed Gwagwalada.
The remaining results from other councils are expected to be announced as collation continues.
Meanwhile, former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has submitted that the ongoing Ramadan fast contributed to the low voter turnout for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council elections and the by-elections in Rivers and Kano states.
He explained that most Muslims observe reduced physical movement during fasting hours and increased focus on spiritual commitments, hence the low turnout in several polling units on Saturday, 21st February, elections.
