The Halal Promotion Foundation (HPF) has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for inaugurating the National Halal Economy Strategy Implementation Committee, describing the initiative as a strategic step toward positioning Nigeria within the rapidly expanding global halal economy.
According to the Foundation, the establishment of the implementation committee signals the government’s seriousness in unlocking the enormous economic opportunities associated with the halal industry, which spans food production, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tourism, logistics and other sectors.
The global halal market is valued in trillions of dollars, and Nigeria—given its large population, agricultural potential, and growing food processing industry—has a strong comparative advantage to participate competitively in this sector.
Halal Promotion Foundation stated that the development of a structured halal economy framework will significantly enhance Nigeria’s capacity to attract investment, strengthen export potential and build international confidence in Nigerian products. By aligning national policies with internationally recognized halal standards, Nigerian industries can gain access to new markets across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and other regions where halal compliance is a critical requirement.
Established in 2019, Halal Promotion Foundation is a duly registered halal certification body in Nigeria committed to promoting halal standards, industry compliance, and consumer confidence. The Foundation provides halal certification, conducts compliance audits and inspections, and supports businesses in aligning their products and operations with halal requirements.
Through its activities, the HPF works to promote awareness, strengthen industry capacity and contribute to Nigeria’s participation in the global halal value chain.
The Foundation emphasized that halal certification is not only a matter of religious compliance but also a powerful economic instrument that enhances product credibility, market acceptance and export competitiveness.
As global demand for halal-certified products continues to rise, Nigerian companies that adopt credible halal standards stand to benefit from expanded trade opportunities and increased consumer trust.
Halal Promotion Foundation further noted that collaboration between government institutions, certification bodies, industry stakeholders and scholars will be essential for the successful implementation of Nigeria’s halal economy strategy.
Such collaboration will ensure the development of credible standards, transparent certification systems, and an enabling environment for businesses seeking to participate in the halal ecosystem.
The Foundation is guided by a distinguished Board of Trustees composed of respected scholars and professionals who provide strategic direction and institutional oversight.
Members of the Board include Shaikh Khalid Aliyu, Salisu Shehu, Abubakr Siddeeq Muhammad, Ishaq Lakin Akintola, Tajuddeen Muhammad Bello Adegun, and Nasir Abdullahi.
Halal Promotion Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national development efforts aimed at building a credible and globally competitive halal ecosystem in Nigeria.
The Foundation also expressed readiness to collaborate with relevant government agencies, industry stakeholders and international partners in advancing the country’s halal economy agenda.
With the inauguration of the National Halal Economy Strategy Implementation Committee, stakeholders believe Nigeria is taking an important step toward harnessing the full potential of the halal market and creating sustainable opportunities for economic diversification, investment and job creation.
