Renowned cleric and convener of the Initiative for a Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN), Prophet Isa El-Buba, has declared support for the presidential ambition of Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader, Prince Adewole Adebayo, ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that Nigeria must not slide into a one-party state.
Prophet El-Buba made the declaration while addressing delegates an event put together by the SDP in Bauchi State describing the gathering as a turning point in Nigeria’s political future.
Addressing party faithful, youth leaders and delegates, the cleric congratulated the SDP for what he described as a peaceful and triumphant gathering, urging members to remain united in the quest to reposition the country.
He expressed concern over the state of the nation, lamenting that despite Nigeria’s abundant natural and human resources, millions of citizens continue to grapple with insecurity, unemployment, poverty and social injustice.
“Successive leadership failures have continued to deprive citizens, especially young people, of opportunities for growth, quality education and economic prosperity.
“Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources, intelligent people and great potential, yet millions still suffer from insecurity, unemployment, poverty and injustice,” he stated.
Prophet El-Buba said the current realities confronting Nigerians demand urgent action, stressing that the time had come for citizens to unite in reshaping the nation’s destiny.
“Now is the time that we need to join forces together to rewrite history. Nigeria cannot continue to go through pain, frustration and clueless leadership,” he said.
In a strongly worded statement, the cleric cautioned against attempts to weaken democratic plurality, insisting that justice, equity and fairness remain fundamental to national stability.
“Nigeria cannot go into a one-party state. Every system survives by justice and equity. Oppression is never the pathway to stability and peace cannot thrive in the midst of injustice,” he declared.
Throwing his weight behind Prince Adewole Adebayo, Prophet El-Buba announced that members of his movement would mobilise support for the SDP chieftain ahead of the next presidential election.
He said Nigerians seeking genuine national recovery must rally behind leaders committed to restoring the country’s lost values and rebuilding public trust.
The cleric also criticised vote-buying and political inducement, insisting that Nigerians had become more conscious and would no longer trade their future for temporary material benefits.
He said, “Nobody will buy the conscience of Nigeria with money or a bag of rice. Nigerians are tired, and it is time to recover the glory of our country.”
Prophet El-Buba expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, describing the moment as the beginning of a national rebirth and a renewed search for purposeful leadership.
He also congratulated party members and Nigerians, expressing hope for what he termed the emergence of a “new Nigeria.”
