The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2027 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has described the death of a former national political leader and elder statesman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, CON, as a monumental loss to Nigeria, Africa and humanity.
Adebayo, in a condolence message on Saturday on the passing of the renowned statesman, administrator and businessman, said Tukur’s death had robbed the country of an experienced leader whose contributions to public administration, business development, national politics and African leadership would remain indelible in the nation’s history.
The SDP presidential candidate expressed deep sadness over the death, noting that Tukur devoted significant years of his life to the service of Nigeria and the African continent.
According to him, the late elder statesman’s commitment to national development, leadership and institutional advancement distinguished him as a patriot whose impact transcended political boundaries.
Adebayo said that Tukur’s contributions to the country’s development reflected an unwavering dedication to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, CON, a distinguished Nigerian statesman, administrator, businessman, and elder whose remarkable contributions to our nation will remain part of our history,” he said.
Adebayo recalled his personal interactions and professional engagements with the deceased, describing Tukur as a true and illustrious Nigerian personage, whose commitment to development was evident in his various endeavours.
He said that he had the privilege of working with Tukur in connection with investments in Adamawa State, the promotion of indigenous shipping and the implementation of the mandate of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) under the late statesman’s leadership.
The SDP candidate said those engagements had given him a deeper appreciation of Tukur’s leadership qualities, vision and dedication to the advancement of Nigeria and Africa.
Adebayo lamented that Nigeria had lost a leader of remarkable accomplishment at a time when the country needed the wisdom, experience and counsel of its elders to navigate its numerous challenges.
He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the government and people of Adamawa State, as well as Tukur’s friends, associates and Nigerians across the country who were mourning his death.
Adebayo urged the bereaved family and the nation to draw strength from the late statesman’s enduring contributions to public service, business, politics and continental development.
He said Tukur’s legacy should serve as a source of inspiration to present and future generations of Nigerians, particularly those committed to public service and national transformation.
Adebayo prayed to Almighty God to grant the deceased eternal rest and provide his family and loved ones with the strength and comfort to bear the painful loss.

TheTimes reports that the late former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) passed away at the age of 90 at his private residence in Abuja.
Born on September 15, 1935, Tukur would have turned 91 three days after his death.
Tukur, a former governor of the old Gongola State, Minister of Industries, businessman and presidential aspirant, died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family.
His son, Hon. Awwal D. Tukur, who announced the death on behalf of the family, said arrangements were underway to take his remains to Yola, Adamawa State, for burial.

The family, in the statement, said Tukur died after a life dedicated to service to his family, community, Adamawa State and Nigeria.
“It is with profound sadness and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah that the family announces the passing of our beloved father and patriarch, Alhaji Bamanga Mohammed Tukur, who returned to his Creator today 12th September 2026,” the statement said.
It described him as a man whose “wisdom, generosity and commitment to the development of our nation touched countless lives,” adding that his legacy would endure for generations.
The family thanked those who had offered prayers, condolences and support following his death and said details of the Janazah, or funeral prayer, and other burial arrangements would be announced.
The family also prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
