The Group Managing Director of Cable Mission Television (CMTV), Sir Godfrey Ohuabunwa, has urged participants at the station’s five-day pre-takeoff workshop and training to embrace the organisation’s vision as the foundation for building a world-class broadcast institution.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop in Abuja, Ohuabunwa said the training was designed to acquaint participants with the vision, mission and core values of the CMTV before they begin technical and operational responsibilities.
According to him, CMTV is envisioned as a multi-platform broadcast station that will operate through satellite, terrestrial and digital platforms, with clear short-term and long-term development plans aimed at expanding its reach across Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
He said the opening session was intentionally focused on the station’s vision rather than technical broadcasting, and that detailed practical training would be handled by specialists during the course of the workshop.
Sir Ohuabunwa said participants must first understand the identity, purpose and direction of the organisation before learning the technical aspects of television production, broadcasting and media operations.
He noted that the workshop brought together professionals from different backgrounds, including media practitioners, administrators, managers and graduates from various disciplines, making it necessary to adopt a gradual and structured learning approach.
The CMTV Group Managing Director stressed that participants would receive practical sessions on television production, newsroom operations, studio management and broadcast ethics as the training progresses.
He added that experienced journalists and media professionals would also take participants through the fundamentals of news gathering, news writing, editing and production to equip them with the skills required for professional broadcasting.
Ohuabunwa emphasised the critical role of journalists as gatekeepers, explaining that media professionals have the responsibility of selecting, verifying and presenting information accurately, fairly and in the public interest before it reaches the audience.
He reminded participants that effective broadcasting goes beyond speaking before a camera, saying professionalism requires research, verification, planning, editorial judgment and adherence to ethical standards.
The CMTV GMD urged participants to remain open to learning throughout the workshop, adding that mastering the fundamental principles of broadcasting would enable them to contribute meaningfully to the station’s growth.
He explained that the purpose of sharing the vision at the outset was to ensure that everyone understood the destination of the organisation and their individual roles in achieving its objectives.
He also urged participants to see themselves as partners in building Cable Mission Television into a credible media organisation committed to professionalism, quality programming, education, information and positive societal values.
The five-day pre-takeoff workshop is expected to equip participants with the knowledge, practical skills and professional orientation required for the successful commencement of operations at Cable Mission Television.
