A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kwara State, Engr. Daniel Eunice Oluwaseyi, has said that the publication of Prince Adewole Adebayo’s name by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election is a major milestone.
She said in a statement on Monday that the development has boosted confidence among party members and strengthened the party’s preparations for the polls.
Oluwaseyi, who is the Kwara State Publicity Secretary of the SDP and the party’s candidate for the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency of Kwara South, also congratulated Prince Adebayo on his emergence as the party’s presidential flag bearer.
She described Prince Adebayo is a true Nigerian patriot, renowned international lawyer, successful industrialist, media entrepreneur and celebrated philanthropist, adding that his emergence as the SDP’s standard-bearer offers Nigerians what she called a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general election.
“The publication of Adebayo’s name by INEC has invigorated the party and sparked widespread jubilation among members across the country, particularly at the grassroots level. The listing by the INEC of the name of Prince Adewole Adebayo as our presidential candidate has, in no small measure, invigorated the party and elicited jubilation and enthusiasm across the ranks and file of the SDP family, particularly at the sub-national level,” she said.
The SDP Kwara spokesperson also commended INEC for what he described as its commitment to the rule of law and its respect for the independence of political parties in managing their internal affairs.
Speaking on behalf of SDP candidates for the 2027 general election, Oluwaseyi praised the electoral commission for recognising the party’s decisions regarding its leadership and nomination process.
She said the commission deserved commendation for “upholding the rule of law and standing firm in respecting the independence and supremacy of the SDP, and indeed all political parties, in matters bordering on their internal democracy and the administration of their affairs.”
She said that INEC’s conduct during the nomination process has strengthened confidence in the country’s democratic institutions and demonstrated impartiality in implementing the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Oluwaseyi noted that the commission’s “strict adherence to the rule of law and unbiased actions regarding the nomination of candidates by political parties, which is an important aspect of the 2026 electoral process, are quite reassuring.”
She attributed what she described as the growing momentum within the SDP to the party’s internal stability, national leadership and Adebayo’s personality and leadership qualities.
She noted that Adebayo had consistently demonstrated the capacity to provide purposeful leadership through his advocacy for constitutional democracy, good governance and sustainable national development.
According to her, these qualities have endeared the presidential candidate to Nigerians across different parts of the country.
She said, “It is indeed heartwarming for us in the SDP that the building momentum around the party is largely as a result of its stability and good national leadership, as well as the candidature and demonstrable capacity which our presidential candidate has consistently demonstrated.”
She said that Adebayo’s public policy advocacy, deep understanding of the fundamentals of national transformation and commitment to governance anchored on Chapter II of the Constitution have made him a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking a new direction.
Oluwaseyi also said the party was inspired by what she described as Adebayo’s growing national appeal and increasing acceptability among Nigerians.
She said, “We are all greatly inspired and motivated by Prince Adewole Adebayo becoming the alluring face and credible voice for building an egalitarian Nigerian society.”
She said members of the party nationwide had been encouraged by what she described as growing public endorsements of Adebayo’s candidature by political advocacy groups, opinion leaders and other influential stakeholders.
Oluwaseyi urged call on Nigerians to support Prince Adebayo and the SDP in the forthcoming general elections, saying the country requires a new leadership direction capable of addressing its economic and security challenges.
She maintained that the SDP remains committed to deepening democratic governance and prioritising the welfare of Nigerians irrespective of political affiliation.
“As a frontline national opposition party, the SDP will continue to work to deepen our democracy and prioritise the well-being of Nigerian citizens at all levels.
“As the candidates of the SDP for the general elections are preparing, cultivating the ground, mobilising and working hard to market the programmes and manifesto of the party to the electorate, 2027 surely promises to be a turning point for Nigeria,” she stated.
Oluwaseyi urged party members and supporters to remain united and committed to the party’s ideals, saying collective efforts would be required to achieve electoral success.
“All hands must, therefore, be on deck to get the country out of the woods. As Nigerians, we owe it a duty to ourselves to ensure that we take critical decisions by making the right voting choices at the centre and sub-national levels to ensure that Nigeria gets better than it is today,” she said.
