Foundation donates M12medical equipment to 6 hospitals in Abuja to boost emergency care

The First Call Aid Charitable Foundation, a non-governmental organization committed to improving healthcare access, has donated medical equipment worth over N12m to six hospitals across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The gesture aims to strengthen emergency response systems, enhance maternal healthcare, and improve patient outcomes in underserved communities.

The Chairperson of the Foundation, Mrs. Khadijat Fashina, said this during a visit to Abaji General Hospital on Monday in Abuja, where she presented medical equipment to support the hospital’s emergency and maternity units.

Fashina said that the donation aligns with the foundation’s mission to expand access to lifesaving care across the FCT, particularly in communities facing persistent shortages of medical resources.

She noted that general hospitals are a priority because they serve large populations and manage a high number of emergency cases.

She said that though the foundation is only one year old, it has already made significant contributions.

“Over the past 12 months, the organization has donated 230 dialysis kits, 150 trauma kits, 100 surgical kits, 100 maternity kits, and 130 antenatal chairs to hospitals including the National Hospital, Gwarinpa General Hospital, Garki Hospital, Karimoh District Hospital, and Wuse District Hospital,” Fashina said.

She added that in addition to medical kits, the foundation has provided essential equipment such as infant incubators, defibrillators, blood pressure apparatus, pulse oximeters, infrared thermometers, nebulizers, oxygen regulators, and other clinical tools needed for emergency and maternal healthcare services.

She said the foundation has also supported indigent patients by helping to offset their medical bills through its zakat fund, bringing its total contributions for the year to approximately N12m.

Highlighting the healthcare challenges in communities like Abaji, Fashina reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to addressing equipment shortages and improving patient care.

She also encouraged public support through donations, sponsorships, and volunteer participation.

She said, “Our goal is to ensure that lifesaving equipment reaches those who need it most. We are grateful to everyone who has supported us. Nigerians are willing to help when they find trustworthy organizations, and we remain committed to using all donations with transparency and integrity.”

In his remarks, the Medical Director of Abaji General Hospital, Dr. Victor Molokwu, who received the donation on behalf of the hospital, commended the NGO for the kind gesture.

Molokwu, who was represented by the Acting Medical Director, Dr. Babafemi Aransiola, described the donation as a much-needed intervention in the healthcare sector.

According to him, it is heartwarming to see individuals and organizations interested in the welfare of patients, especially those who cannot afford hospital bills.

He revealed that prior to the donation, he had attempted to purchase supplies on his own as a contribution to indigent patients, but the high cost made it impossible.

“Unlike that visit, the First Call Aid Foundation’s donation was purely an act of charity, with no strings attached,” he said.

He also called on other well-meaning Nigerians to support similar initiatives, emphasizing the dire conditions in local communities.

The foundation was established in 2019, born out of a profound need to provide support for emergency situations in hospitals.
