The Kogi State Council of Ulama of Nigeria has endorsed the newly appointed Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, describing his appointment as a reflection of merit, integrity and proven leadership.
The endorsement came during a courtesy visit to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, where the clerics congratulated the new chairman and offered prayers for a successful tenure.
Led by the Council’s Chairman, Sheikh Salman Adam Imam, the delegation said Yusuf’s emergence at the helm of the commission was timely, given the need for strategic reforms in the Hajj administration sector.
In a statement presented during the visit, the council noted that the chairman’s appointment was anchored on a distinguished career, tested administrative capacity and long-standing contributions to ethical development.
The clerics said his record had positioned him as the right person to lead the commission at a critical period in its history.
They also highlighted the significance of his emergence as the first indigene of Kogi State and the entire North-central geopolitical zone to head the commission since its establishment nearly 30 years ago.
According to them, the development is not only a source of pride for Kogi State but also a milestone for the region and the wider Muslim community in Nigeria.
The council further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a thoughtful and strategic decision.
It expressed confidence that Yusuf’s leadership would restore institutional confidence and reposition the commission for greater efficiency.
The clerics, however, urged the commission’s management, staff and relevant stakeholders within the Muslim community to work closely with the new chairman in tackling systemic challenges affecting the agency.
They stressed that collective effort would be required to improve service delivery and strengthen operational standards in the commission.
A formal letter of congratulations was presented to Yusuf during the visit.
Responding, the NAHCON chairman thanked the delegation for the support and goodwill.
He described the visit as both humbling and encouraging.
Yusuf pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him and assured that his leadership would focus on measurable improvements across the commission.
He said, “I am deeply encouraged by this show of solidarity. By the grace of God, we will work diligently to exceed expectations and strengthen the performance of the commission.”
Prayers were later offered for the success of his tenure and the continued progress of the commission.
