FG clarifies Tinubu’s official title

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, has corrected the official appellation of President Bola Tinubu.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Mr Yomi Odunuga on Friday in Abuja.

According to him, this follows, what it called recurring errors by some organisations and media outlets.

Odunuga said the clarification was personally signed by the SGF Akume.

“The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has noted with concern the frequent error in the official appellation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by various bodies and media organisations.

The OSGF urged the public and media organisations to verify official titles before publication so that such avoidable and embarrassing errors would not filter into the publications.

“For the record, the correct and official appellation is: His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria” Akume said.

He said, “The clarification became necessary after an error was observed in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026. Such lapses, he noted, can be avoided with due verification through the appropriate sources.”
