The Kano Emirate and Bauchi State First Lady have called for concerted efforts to strengthen moral reawakening through imbibing of Quranic teaching for societal peace and national development.
They made the call on Saturday at the Abuja National Mosque during the maiden Quranic graduation and multi-day activities of the Abuja National Mosque Academy (Madrasa section), in collaboration with Nana Fatima School for Qur’an and education and Madrasatul Muhajirun Alamiy, Lugbe Abuja.
Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero represented by Alhaji Auwal Abdullahi Biyora, who holds the traditional title of Sardauki of Kano, noted the importance of adhering to Quranic teaching to overcome the challenges facing the country.
He also emphasised the critical role of spiritual devotion and moral discipline among young people as the nation gradually prepares for another major electoral cycle in 2027.
Addressing the spirit of the event, Biyora extended good wishes to the participating students and their families, stressing the importance of moral steadfastness.
“I wish them a very successful recitation here and I wish their parents, too. The commitment required for this gathering is commendable,” he said.
Highlighting the broader educational and social benefits of Quranic competition for young Nigerians, Biyora urged the youth to remain steadfast in their studies and spiritual development.
He said, “I wish them the best, and let them keep it up and continue reading the Quran for the young generation and the old one, Insha’Allah.”
Asked about the political climate and expectations for the country as political manoeuvres build up towards 2027, the Sardauki of Kano said that spiritual guidance remains essential for national stability.
He urged Nigerian youths and the general public to engage in intensive prayer to ensure a peaceful, stable, and successful political transition across the country.
He said, “We are praying and asking everyone, including the children to pray for the country to have a successful election in the country.”
He expressed confidence that the multi-day spiritual program would help cultivate discipline, unity, and peace, providing a moral compass for the youth as Nigeria navigates its socio-political landscape.
On her part, the First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Dr. Aisha Bala Muhammad, also underscored the importance of moral and spiritual education in building a disciplined society, describing the completion of Qur’anic recitation as a vital milestone for youth development and community peace.
She was represented by Hajiya Asma’u Awwal Muhammad Jasa, wife of the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State.
The Bauchi State First Lady, who holds the traditional title of First Sarauniya of Bauch, commended the graduates for their perseverance, patience, and dedication in mastering the holy book.
“Completing the Qur’an is such a beautiful accomplishment, and I pray that this is only the beginning of an even stronger relationship with Allah and His words,” she said.
She further urged the celebrants to serve as positive role models in their respective communities by living in accordance with the virtues and teachings of the scriptures.
The Principal of the Abuja National Mosque Academy, Dr Shehu Usman Mohamad, said the essence of Qur’anic education was not simply to produce children who could recite and memorise the Holy Book, but to raise Muslims capable of applying its teachings to everyday life.
He urged the celebrants and everyone to uphold the learning and benefits of the Qur’an to be better citizens.
A financial and investment expert, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Shu’aibu, in his keynote, titled ‘Madrasah Islamiyyah as Waqf’, urged Muslims to maximise the benefits of Waqf (endowment foundation) to reduce poverty and strengthen the wealth of the citizenry.
