2027: Tinubu wins APC ticket with 10.9m votes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.

This came after securing a sweeping victory at the party’s primary election held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja on Saturday.

Tinubu polled 10,999,162 votes to overwhelmingly defeat his sole challenger, Mr. Stanley Osifu, who garnered 16,503 votes in the nationwide exercise.

The result was declared by Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, Senator Pius Anyim, who served as the returning officer for the election.

Announcing the outcome before party leaders, Governors and delegates, Anyim, who was a former Senate President, said the exercise covered the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards across the country.

According to the figures announced by the Committee Chairman, 12,643,306 party members were registered for the primary election, while 11,069,756 members were accredited to vote.

He said that out of the accredited voters, 11,015,665 votes were cast during the exercise.

A breakdown of the final results showed that Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes, representing virtually all valid votes cast, while Osifu managed 16,503 votes, leaving a massive victory margin of 10,982,659 votes.

Declaring the result, Anyim said: “By the powers conferred on me as the returning officer of this primary election, I hereby declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the APC presidential primary election and the duly elected presidential candidate of the party.”

The declaration triggered loud celebrations inside the ICC as party faithful, governors, members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and federal lawmakers applauded the president’s landslide victory.

The outcome further strengthens Tinubu’s hold on the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the APC leadership presenting the primary as a show of party unity and nationwide support for the incumbent president gunning for re-election.
