The Association of Retired Nigerian Sports Men and Women (RENISA) has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the nation’s Democracy Day, urging citizens to embrace unity, peace, justice and national development.
In a Democracy Day message jointly issued by the National President of RENISA, Sunday Adeleye, and the Board of the association, it praised the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic journey and the collective efforts of citizens in sustaining democratic governance.
According to the statement, Democracy Day represents “the power of the people, the strength of unity, and the promise of a greater tomorrow.”
The association noted that retired sports men and women across the country remain committed to contributing their experience and expertise toward national growth and development.
RENISA emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences stressing that national progress can only be achieved through mutual respect, justice, fairness and collective responsibility.
“As retired Nigerian sports men and women, we salute our dear nation for the freedom we enjoy and the opportunity to contribute to its growth and development,” the statement read.
The association further called on all Nigerians to uphold the values that strengthen democracy and foster national unity, urging citizens to work together in building a prosperous and inclusive nation.
As part of its Democracy Day commitment, RENISA reaffirmed its pledge “to love Nigeria and promote patriotism; be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers; support peace, unity and progress in communities across the country.”
The leadership of RENISA expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, encouraging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to the ideals of democracy.
“Together, let us continue to build a Nigeria we can all be proud of,” the statement concluded.
The Association said it remains committed to promoting the welfare of retired athletes and supporting initiatives that advance national unity and development.
