Accord Party pledges loyalty to Imumolen as national chair

Stakeholders of the Accord party, Lagos State Chapter, have reaffirmed their loyalty to the party’s former Presidential Candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, as the substantive National Chairman of the party.

The stakeholders led by Mr Moses Jaguars in a statement on Saturday cautioned against what they described as attempting to hijack the party’s structure ahead of the 2026 off-cycle and 2027 general elections.

Jaguars described the attempt to dismiss Prof. Imumolen’s mandate as laughable and legally untenable, saying there is a valid subsisting court order affirming his leadership.

“There is a valid subsisting court order on this matter. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already acknowledged the situation and assured compliance pending final determination at the Federal High Court.

“No amount of propaganda can override the rule of law. Let it be known, Accord is not for sale. It is not a dumping ground for political mercenaries or a tool for external manipulation.

“Those attempting to distort its structure for personal gain will be firmly resisted within the bounds of the law,” he said.

Jaguars expressed concern over recent statements credited to the party National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, denning Accord’s collaboration with the ruling party or President Bola Tinubu.

He described it as an attempt to cover up a political conspiracy.

“The same individuals now issuing denials are fully aware of visible and well-documented evidence, including billboards across Osun and public engagements where Gov. Ademola Adeleke openly aligned with Tinubu,” he said.

Jaguars also alleged that certain elements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have planted agents within Accord to facilitate a backdoor takeover of the party’s tickets.

He cited the emergence of Hashim Olawepo, whom he identified as a known PDP figure now opening campaign offices nationwide under the Accord banner.

He warned that any attempt to distort the party’s structure for personal gain or external manipulation would be “firmly resisted within the bounds of the law.”

“Accord is not for sale. It is not a dumping ground for political mercenaries or a tool for external manipulation,” Jaguars said.

He urged party faithful and the Nigerian public to remain vigilant, vowing that the integrity of the Accord Party would be defended at all costs.

Some Accord Party members had on Tuesday staged a protest to INEC, demanding the immediate recognition of Imumolen as the party chairman.

Imumolen speaking during the protest expressed frustration over what he called INEC’s reluctance to enforce judicial decisions, while calling on the commission to obey valid court orders on his mandate.

However, Mgbuden, on Thursday at a news conference in Abuja disowned the protest held at INEC, insisting that there is no leadership crisis or faction within the party.

Mgbudem while responding to questions also denied any collaboration with the APC on the 2027 general elections.
