ADC: Kachikwu berates power grabbers, says party not for sale

Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has berated those he described as “political buccaneers” attempting to take over the party structure.

He insisted that the move has been defeated following a recent court ruling on factional congresses.

He stated this on Wednesday at a world news conference alongside states Chairmen of the party in Abuja.

Reacting to the judgment, Kachikwu said the court decision vindicated his long-standing warning that some individuals were bent on hijacking the party for selfish interests.

“The ADC is not for sale. Those who tried to hijack our party have been shown the way out through the same back door they came in,” Kachikwu said.

He also mocked the alleged plotters, describing them as “desperados” whose attempt to seize control of the party has collapsed under judicial scrutiny.

He said, “These desperados have failed woefully. We hear they are already shopping for other parties to destabilise—we wish them bon voyage.”

The ADC chieftain urged party faithful to remain alert, saying the struggle for control of the party is not yet over.

“The battle is not over until it is over. But one thing is clear the ADC will be on the ballot, and it remains a ready home for Nigerians who genuinely want to salvage this country,” he said.

He also referenced ongoing judicial proceedings presided over by Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik, noting that further clarity is expected once the process is concluded.

Reiterating his broader political stance, Kachikwu said his movement is driven not by coalition interests but by the need for a “fundamental reset” of Nigeria’s political direction.

He criticised the current political system, saying it promotes division rather than solutions, while lamenting worsening insecurity in the North and economic hardship in the South-East.

He said that Nigeria’s challenges cannot be solved with “the same mindset that created them,” insisting that a new political approach is needed to rescue the country from systemic decline.

He added that the ruling had effectively stopped what he called a coordinated political takeover, insisting that those involved had been lawfully checked.

“Those who tried to hijack our party have been shown the way out through the same back door they came in,” Kachikwu said.

On his part, Chairman of state Chairmen of the ADC, Kingsley Ogga, welcomed the court ruling, describing it as a victory for loyal party members.

He said the judgment had strengthened internal democracy within the party and restored confidence among supporters.

“Our labour to defend this party will never be in vain. The ADC belongs to the people, not to any individual or group,” Ogga said.

He urged members to remain united and continue working towards strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
