The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has summoned Muslims across Nigeria to a special national prayer for peace, stability and progress in the country on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque Complex.
The prayer, convened under the leadership of the President-General of the NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will hold from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
The council said the gathering would provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
The Public Affairs Officer of the NSCIA, Abbas Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement signed on Tuesday.
According to him, the council will also hold its General Assembly on Thursday, October 1, at the same venue, beginning at 10am.
The General Assembly is the highest decision-making organ of the NSCIA and brings together a broad representation of Muslim leaders, public office holders and Islamic organisations from across the country.
It is headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, with the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, as well as the Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo.
Other members include the Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, and the Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.
Muslim public office holders, including governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, are also expected at the gathering.
Representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory will equally participate.
The assembly will further bring together representatives of Islamic organisations, members of the General Purpose Committee and Expanded General Purpose Committee of the NSCIA, alongside prominent Muslim personalities from across Nigeria.
Beyond its administrative responsibilities, the General Assembly provides a broad platform for consultation, reflection and consideration of issues affecting the Council, the Muslim Ummah and the nation.
The council urged all invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate in the two-day programme.
The NSCIA also called on Muslims across the country to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development.
The council said the initiative reflected its continued commitment to promoting unity among Muslims and fostering peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
It also reiterated its support for efforts aimed at strengthening the stability and progress of the country.
